Charleston, S.C., duo Shovels & Rope made its network television debut on “Late Show With David Letterman” in early 2013 and later that year took home two Americana Music Association awards at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium for Emerging Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for the track “Birmingham.” Composed of husband and wife Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, the duo sings harmony-driven folk, rock and country songs. You can hear them Wednesday with Hurray for the RiffRaff, which is fronted by Alynda Lee Segarra, a 25-year-old Puerto Rican from the Bronx.
